Client Comments | Rapid Operational Improvement
| I learned more in just the first 3 sessions than I have learned about Lean in any other course I had taken. |
Leslie Hagle,
West Coast Paper. |

| After our one-week class, we have defined and implemented Standard Work and a new Line Design for the main assembly line that supports one-piece flow over batching. In the Finish room we have designed Operational Method Sheets and updated all of the Work Instructions, we've also created certification sheets that can be used to audit and certify an operator after training has been completed. We're developing a complete package that can be used to educate people on their roles and to create a structure that Leadership can use to manage consistency and productivity. |

| "Lois Quinn is one of those rare individuals who removes the stigma of 'change' and replaces it with words like 'evolving'. In simpler terms,
Lois teaches change rather than mandates it. It is with great respect and
appreciation that I recommend Lois Quinn for any company that is seeking
outstanding talent, professionalism and knowledge base." |

Chief Operations Officer |

| I am delighted to share a very positive report on the 3 hour Lean
Overview. I participated (more than I had expected to) in the workshop
Tuesday. I made the mistake of sitting in the front row and Lois
volunteered me for several activities. Lois is an outstanding learning
facilitator and it was a very learner centered session. This should be a
strong boost in the momentum of our lean journey. My compliments for a
job well done! |

I recommend Lois Quinn as a Consultant in Lean Methodology
implementations.
Lois is an accomplished Consultant with a broad set of tools, experience
and understanding of Lean Methodologies. Her diverse experience gives her
an ability to understand and address a number of issues that typically
plague many of today's businesses.
I have had the opportunity to utilize Lois's skills as a teacher and
facilitator in the implementation of Lean in our own manufacturing
facility. As a teacher Lois is quite effective, she is well versed in all
areas of the subject and able to engage all participants in the learning
process by intermingling the class material with real world experiences.
As a facilitator she is able to bring the best out in people brought
together for a common purpose bringing them to a profitable conclusion to
the issues at hand quickly and effectively.
I will not hesitate to use Lois again in our own facility when the need
arises and would highly recommend her to you. |

Here is some of the progress made in a couple months since our 40-hour
Lean training by Lois.
We have defined and implemented Standard Work and a new Line Design for
the main assembly line in the Cabinet Room. We are working on a second
Cabinet line currently. The team has come up with some new work stations
that support one piece flow over batching in the Cabinet room. They are
also installing some racks to better manage inventory levels on drawer
parts.
In the Finish room we have designed Operational Method Sheets and updated
all of the Work Instructions, based on that we've also created
certification sheets that can be used to audit and certify an operator
after training has been completed. We are researching how to create some
training videos for finish operations that can be used in Operator
training prior to releasing an individual to the line. All of this has to
be approved by finish management (Holidays) and then rolled out.
Between the work being done in the Cabinet and Finish rooms, we are trying
to develop a complete package that can be used to educate people on their
roles and to create a structure that Leadership can use to manage the
process for consistency and productivity.
The package includes:
Training materials that include written work instructions, Standard Work
Sheets and training videos.
Standard Work Sheets will provide the Sequence of Events and the
productivity expectations and will be available at each work station.
OMS sheets for each position will be a visual reminder of the process
sequence as well as the critical to quality elements that must
be checked.
Operator Certification forms will be used to audit and certify an operator
as proficient in a position. (Each audit form is specific to a position.)
Cross Training Matrix will note the certifications of people in an area.
The matrix will provide confidence that people moved to cover absenteeism
have the skills necessary to perform in that position.
A Story Board for each line that shows several things. Line
Layout, Staffing Positions on the line, Total Positions required, Standard
Work for each position, Operator Balancing bar chart. This board can be
used to monitor the line making sure that the positions are filled and
that standard work is being performed.
We are making some progress in creating the support structure for
Standard Work and we have made a few line design changes. Our next step is
continuing the education of leadership on how to use of the support
structure and the new line designs. |
